Kindness Week!

Our school took the Kindness Challenge. We had several spirit days where we were encouraged to participate. Some amazing students in grade 4/5 planned each day for us.

Here is what some of us looked like during the week:

With all of the snow we have received the snow hills have been very busy! We also enjoyed the sticky snow that is perfect for...

MAKING SNOWMEN!

Our Art  has been focused on snowmen as well! What do you think?

We tried having our buddies play some math games with us. Every one had a great time. Thank you Mrs. Beazley's Class!!!

Around the World in Eighty Steps!

We are learning about the Seven Continents and Five Oceans.  We watched a video on the
"Continents and Oceans"  then added some interesting details on our own maps of the world. So far we have looked at the continent of Africa.

We have listened to some fables too! Anansi is quite a trickster! This is one of the videos we saw about  "African and African American Folktales".

We had fun looking at the continents on the floor mat! We made a circle around the map, we took tiny steps around until Mrs. Hauta said stop, then we sat down. We did this many times so that everyone had a good look at the world spread out on the carpet! We must have made at least 80 steps!

Krystal has family in Vietnam!

Alex and his family came from Nigeria!

"Hello Denise!" the students shouted when they found the Philippines, because she is there visiting family right now!

Everyone found the United States, home of our pen pals in Illinois.

Students even found the countries of Thailand and Burma where Mrs. Hauta lived and worked for several years!

Excited to be back!

Everyone was so excited to be back at school. We were happy to tell each other about our holidays!

This week in art we started a study of snowmen!

Mrs. Hauta made a snowman out of plasticine. We used the ipad to take pictures of the snowman from the front, from a bird's eye view, the top view, and from the worm's eye view. We drew the snowman in each perspective. Our first Art piece has been made using crayon resist and watercolours.

We have been practicing our basic math facts using flashcards and many "Snakes and Ladders" game boards. It's fun to practice math facts this way!

Friday was also Krystal's Birthday! We enjoyed some cake made fresh by her mom and some fresh fruit! A big thank you goes out to Krystal's mom!!!!!!

Santa's Workshop

The elves here at Stevenson were very busy getting ready for their holiday celebrations! First they designed a Christmas ornament to hang on their trees, or a winter scene to hang on the wall. They made their project using techniques shared by Barbara Reid through her videos on youtube.

Next the students designed their wrapping paper.

Finally all of Santa's elves wrapped the gifts they had made for their families!

We couldn't post this before Christmas because we didn't want to spoil any surprises!!! Hope you enjoyed the decorations!
